Drying with the active drying
“start and stop” kit
In recent years, the evolution of Termolegno technology follows two complementary paths. On the one hand, new systems are introduced, such as continuous drying, which radically revolutionizes the working method and implies the production of new types of equipment with related components and structures.
On the other hand, new software solutions are developed to control and manage existing processes, customizing and streamlining them to make the most of their potential: this is the case of the “start and stop” drying. The goals of this digital technology introduced by Termolegno are to reduce the cost of the drying process through energy savings and at the same time improve the final technical quality of the treated wood without affecting the cycle time.

The “start and stop” drying process consists in the strategic modulation and reduction of ventilation throughout the treatment to the point of nullifying it when not required, resulting in thermal and electrical savings of up to 50%. Not only: this “sensitive” technology ensures a more effective and homogeneous airflow in the drying kilns, reducing stress in the wood fiber and thus internal strain and deformations.
For this purpose, Termolegno offers customers an active drying “start and stop” kit, which includes:
- A package of discontinuous drying programs, specially designed and tested by Termolegno’s R&D laboratory. This tool enables to monitor and measure the environmental parameters of drying as well as those of the wood, pro-actively operating with pause and work cycles appropriate to the specific customer needs, resulting in energy and quality optimization of this process.
- A monitoring and consulting service for two drying cycles on one type of wood. The “start and stop” active drying kit is a “soft” solution that is proving to be particularly effective for drying resinous woods, while still offering excellent performances even with hardwoods.
